How We Are Implementing New Bauchi Master Plan – Governor Bala

From Ahmad Saka, Bauchi

Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has disclosed that his administration is implementing a comprehensive new master plan for the state capital, with development goals set to scale up until the year 2050.

This was revealed in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Usman Shehu Usman, and made available to journalists in Bauchi. The governor spoke while delivering a keynote address as a guest speaker at the Africa International Housing Show (AIHS) in Abuja.

Governor Bala noted that the policy thrust of his administration focuses on investing in a knowledge-based economy and the development of physical infrastructure.

“In Bauchi State, one of the major priorities of the current administration is investment in a knowledge-driven economy and the development of key infrastructure. We are committing substantial resources to sectors such as housing, transportation, power supply, water resources, environmental sustainability, and integrated rural development,” he said.

He explained that the newly introduced master plan for the state capital outlines strategic aspirations and development benchmarks to be achieved by 2050 and is being strictly implemented.

Highlighting steps taken towards urban renewal and modernization, the governor cited the establishment of the Bauchi Geographic Information Service (BAGIS), aimed at modernizing land administration in the state.

“BAGIS represents a significant leap forward in transforming our land administration processes. It is receiving the necessary support from the government as part of our commitment to modernize and attract investments,” he said.

Governor Bala further noted that following the discovery of oil in Bauchi State, economic activities have begun to thrive. He revealed that the state was recently ranked 6th nationally in ease of doing business — a milestone he attributed to the implementation of progressive economic policies.

Addressing the housing deficit, the governor stated that the government, in collaboration with Family Homes Funds Ltd., has constructed 2,500 housing units across the six emirates of the state.

“As part of our urban renewal efforts, shanties have been removed from key areas to create access roads and improve right-of-way along major streets. A new Government House has also been completed to reflect the trend of modernization. We are currently working on developing new layouts in the GRA area to create a modern Bauchi city,” he said.

On urban infrastructure, Governor Bala revealed that over 300 kilometers of township roads with proper drainage systems have been constructed across Bauchi metropolis. He emphasized that new roads are being built to open up densely populated areas and decongest traffic in the old city center.

“Our administration is laying a solid foundation for modernization while also introducing youth-focused programs to reduce rural-urban migration,” the governor added.

Governor Bala commended the organizers of the Africa International Housing Show for sustaining a vital platform for discussing national issues related to housing and development planning. He assured stakeholders of the state's commitment to sustainable partnerships and collaborative efforts for national growth.
