SAZU Hosts FACIS, other Partners for Capacity Building on Violence Prevention

Forward Action for Conservation of Indigenous Species (FACIS) in collaboration with Sa'adu Zungur University and other partners commenced a 2-Day Capacity Building Workshop on Re-understanding Violence Prevention Through A Health Lense.

The workshop which takes place at Yuli Campus of the university draws participants from SAZU community, particularly the students, as well as other critical stakeholders who have one or more things to do with violence prevention.

FACIS Lead, Alhaji Usman Inuwa Mohammed said the aim of the workshop is "to build the capacity of our young ones, especially in the university (SAZU), so that we can have full of resource persons, activists and actors that will work to prevent violence using Health approach," adding that, "Health approach is a kind of a new apprach that was introduced to prevent violence."

Usman further said, "We want to see how we can leverage on the resources that we have globally and also nationally so that we continue to collaborate with SAZU; so that we continue to work together in order to push for peace to reign in our community."

According to Usman, the choice of Sa'adu Zungur University as one of the partners is because SAZU is one institution that is doing quite a lot in terms of environmental safety, and peace building, adding that, "We scouted and went round other tertiary institutions that we have in the state, but only in SAZU that we have seen an active clubs, which are Environmental Conservation Club and Peace Building Clud."

Usman said this is an opportunity for them to collaborate with these two active clubs so that they can move and shift the needle from where it is to where thay want it to be.

Earlier, Vice Chancellor of Sa'adu Zungur University Professor Fatimah Tahir in her opening remarks, commended FACIS for organising the occasion and bringing it to SAZU.

Represented by Dr. Musa Adamu Wunti, the VC said SAZU always welcomes such kind of development which is believed to be for the benefit of the institution and the entire university community, as well as the state in general.

The VC therefore reaffirmed the institution's commitment to continue with the partnership and support to FACIS for their efforts towards empowering the students.
