Senator Shehu Buba Boosts Agriculture with Free Animal Vaccination, Fertiliser Distribution in Bauchi South

From Ahmadu Saka, Bauchi

In a major agricultural intervention, Senator Shehu Buba Umar, representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, has launched a free mass animal vaccination campaign and distributed fertiliser to farmers across the district.

The vaccination exercise was flagged off at Gobbiya in Bogoro Local Government Area and aims to cover 85,000 domestic animals, including cattle, sheep, and goats, in all seven LGAs within the senatorial zone. The event attracted traditional rulers, APC stakeholders, lawmakers, political leaders, and representatives of herder communities.

Speaking during the launch, Senator Buba said the initiative is part of his commitment to supporting both farmers and herders in the district.

“This year, we will be vaccinating 85,000 livestock across the senatorial district. Last year, about 40,000 animals were vaccinated. This is not a favour but a responsibility we owe our people. Our farmers and herders contribute immensely to the economy and deserve adequate representation,” he stated.

According to the senator, the initiative is designed to protect the livelihoods of livestock farmers, enhance productivity, ensure animal health, and strengthen food security in the region.

He added that the campaign will be carried out by trained veterinary officers and animal health technologists, who will work closely with community leaders and livestock owners, spending two days in each local government area to ensure comprehensive coverage.

“This is not just a symbolic event. It is a strong signal of our shared commitment to animal health, food security, and economic resilience,” Senator Buba said.

A stakeholder from Dass, Tafawa Balewa, and Bogoro Federal Constituency, Alhaji Aminu Tukur, urged herders to present their animals for vaccination and called on the senator to establish a skills acquisition centre in the area to reduce youth unemployment. He also encouraged follow-up on abandoned federal road projects initiated by former Speaker Yakubu Dogara.

Beneficiaries of the exercise expressed appreciation for the senator’s commitment to improving animal health services and agricultural productivity.

Fertiliser Distribution to Farmers

In a related development, Senator Buba also commenced the distribution of 4,200 bags of NPK fertiliser to farmers, free of charge. The distribution, flagged off in Bauchi, is part of efforts to boost agricultural yields and support local food production.

“This initiative is aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity and addressing the challenges farmers face due to climate change and soil degradation. This is the third round of fertiliser support, and I personally procured the seven trucks of fertiliser for this programme,” Senator Buba said.

He emphasized that the distribution demonstrates his dedication to food security and rural economic development.

The fertiliser beneficiaries included stakeholders across wards and political units, as well as women and youth groups, religious leaders, and individual farmers from the seven LGAs within Bauchi South.

Many of them expressed gratitude and pledged to use the fertiliser judiciously to boost food production in the area.

Senator Buba commended the fertiliser distribution committee and urged them to ensure equity and transparency in the exercise.
