No fewer than 700 residents of Kuhu community in Bauchi Local Government Area have benefitted from a free medical outreach organised by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) as part of activities marking its 61st anniversary.
Our Correspondent reports that the outreach was held on Saturday and coordinated by the Headquarters of the Special Operations Command in Bauchi, aimed to enhance healthcare delivery and strengthen civil-military relations.
Speaking during the inauguration of the one-day outreach, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Usman Abdullahi, Air Officer Commanding (AOC), Special Operations Command, said the effort reflects NAF’s commitment to its corporate social responsibility.
AVM Abdullahi, who was represented by the Chief of Staff, AVM Abdullahi Bello, emphasised the importance of community support.
“We give to society the little we have because their problem is our problem, and our problem is theirs,” he stated.
Air Commodore Adedoyin Oyenusi, Commander of the 261 Nigerian Air Force Reference Hospital in Bauchi, explained that Kuhu was chosen due to its proximity to the hospital.
He noted that the outreach demonstrates NAF’s commitment to improving civilian-military relationships.
“This initiative contributes significantly to the well-being of this community, residents will benefit from free consultations, screenings for conditions such as hepatitis, malaria, and diabetes, distribution of mosquito nets to pregnants women
“As well as dental check-ups, eye examinations, and the distribution of eyeglasses. Services for hypertension, ulcers, and deworming will also be available.”he said.
Oyenusi also assured that serious cases identified during the outreach would be referred to the NAF Hospital in Bauchi for further treatment, stressing that the hospital remains open to civilians who clearly state their purpose at the gate.
Appreciating the gesture, Alhaji Salihu Shehu, Village Head of Kuhu, thanked the Nigerian Air Force, noting that the turnout included residents from neighboring communities.
“This is the second time we are receiving this kind of support from NAF, and we are deeply grateful,” he said.
One of the beneficiaries, Malam Adamu Wodi, expressed his appreciation and urged NAF to make the outreach a regular event.
“We are poor people who can’t always afford medical care. Having access to this kind of service regularly would mean a lot to us,” he said.
