Analyst Cautions EFCC, ICPC Against Tarnishing Images of Patriots

A media consultant and public affairs analyst, Dr. Abdulrahman Sade, has cautioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to be cautious in their investigations and avoid tarnishing the images of patriotic Nigerians with good records of stewardship.

Sade made the plea in a press statement, citing the recent probe of Mele Kyari, former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), and some officials who served with him. He said the EFCC's statement on the probe led to widespread negative reactions and false reports, which could damage the reputations of patriotic Nigerians.

The analyst urged the anti-graft agencies to act professionally, resist attempts to be used as tools for falsehood and blackmail, and ensure that investigations are conducted diligently and with understanding of the strategic intents and works of the NNPC as a limited liability company.

Sade emphasized that Kyari and his team should be investigated professionally, and not based on misinformation or personal hatred. He cited Kyari's achievements during his tenure, including the transformation of NNPCL, the return to profitability, and efforts to revive Nigeria's long-dormund refineries.

The analyst stressed that accountability and transparency are essential in public office, but investigations should be conducted fairly and without bias. He advocated for justice and accountability, but also emphasized that incorruptible individuals should not be targeted wrongly.

Sade concluded that Nigerians should always do the right thing, and anti-graft agencies should act professionally to avoid being used by self-centered individuals to spread false rumors and hatred against patriotic and respected Nigerians.
