The Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi Foundation (SDUB) has commenced its 2nd annual National Qur’anic Recitation Competition in Bauchi. The week-long competition drew participants from selected Qur’anic schools under the Foundation from six northern states, including Bauchi, Gombe, Kano, Katsina, Niger, and Kaduna.
The competition features four categories of 20 hizbs, 30 hizbs, 40 hizbs, and 60 hizbs in both male and female categories, with not less than 300 Quranic students participating. The Director of Education of the Foundation, Sidi Aliyu Sise Dahiru, represented by Sayyadi Dahiru Isa Madugu, said the competition aims to promote the correct recitation of the Qur’an and boost the morale and commitment of students of the Qur’an.
The Representative of Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, Sayyadi Tijjani Dahiru, emphasized the importance of adopting the Qur’an as a lifelong guide and encouraged students to continually recite and memorize the holy book for moral and spiritual development.
The Secretary of Education of the Foundation, Malam Abdullahi Ismail, said the competition is designed to deepen Islamic education and elevate Quranic literacy, and will continue annually to strengthen the foundation of Islamic education across the region.
The Bauchi State Commissioner of Religious Affairs, Engineer Muhammad Binni Abdulkadir, commended the organizers for a job well done and assured government support to all religious programs.
Scholars presented papers on the importance of supporting Qur’anic competition institutions, learning Tajweed, and the role of Quranic competition in developing Qur’anic education in Nigeria. The competition was held at the Sheikh Dahiru Islamic Centre in Bauchi and attracted students, Qur’anic scholars, and people from various walks of life.
