The Arewa Youths for the Sustenance of Democracy and Good Governance (AYSDGG) has faulted the Managing Director of the North West Development Commission (NWDC), Professor Abdullahi Ma'aji, over his unilateral decision to announce a scholarship scheme without involving the Board.
The group's leader, Alhaji Salihu Magaji, asked the Minister of Regional Development, Abubakar Momoh, to warn the MD against violating the laws governing the commission's activities. Magaji described Ma'aji's actions as high-handed and disrespectful to the Chairman and other Board members.
The commission is embroiled in an internal crisis over the scholarship scheme, with the Board alleging that they were not informed about the program. Magaji said the MD's actions may create unnecessary crisis in the commission and urged the Minister to call him to order.
Magaji praised the Chairman of the Commission, Alhaji Lawan Sama'ila Abdullahi, as a respected elder statesman and astute administrator who will not violate the law. He urged President Bola Tinubu to continue supporting the Chairman's efforts to strengthen the commission and ensure that it operates according to the rule of law.
The group also commended the Managing Director of the North East Development Commission (NEDC), Alhaji Goni Alkali, for his successes in carrying all stakeholders along and executing projects that benefit the people of the region. They advised Ma'aji to emulate Alkali's approach.
Magaji alleged that the MD's actions reflect a broader pattern of political maneuvering that seeks to distract from pressing issues and undermine the Chairman's efforts. He urged citizens to remain vigilant and support leaders who demonstrate commitment to the welfare of the people.
