Over 10,000 Bauchi People Benefit from Free Health Minister's Medical Outreach

The Nigerian Medical Association in collaboration with the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency with support from the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare Professor Mohammed Ali Pate, has successfully organized a free medical outreach in Bauchi State.

The medical outreach which cuts across eleven (11) local governments in the state, is aimed at helping those in need of medical support concerning their virious types of ailments, especially in this time of economic hardship. 

While launching the outreach in Dass LG, state Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association MMA Dr. Abdullahi Mohammed Kabiru who is also the coordinator of Bauchi Zone of the outreach, said the exercise which is meant to be offered to all kinds of patients is aimed at addressing some of the health challenges especially at this time of the economy. 

He said the aim was to bring succor and solace to the vulnerable people who are in need of medical care. 

According to him, in each of the 11 local governments, 1000 patients are targeted, adding that cases that have to be addressed include general surgery, medical cases, gynecology cases, optalmology cases, and psychiatric cases. 

Dr. Abdullahi said enough health personnel have been in attendance to offer services to various patients that might come with different kinds of cases. "We have all doctors cutting across all those specialities to see outpatients," he said. 

"We have over twenty doctors doing the outpatient consultation, we have ten doctors to perform the surgeries with anesthetic preoperative nurses, we have about 15 pharmacist, ten nurses, ten health information officers and ten crowd management personnel among others."

Dr Abdullahi said all these provision is to ensure a hitch free exercise in all the 11 local governments where the outreach takes place. 

He said the outreach was 100% free, "as you can see from the banner, everything from consultations to investigations, surgeries and drugs are going to be free."

He emphasized that the aim, "is to see how we can bring succor to the hardship that patients are going through because of the economic situation which made a lot of patients to stay at home due to lack of money to go and see doctors in hospitals."


On whether there there is enough consumables to cover the patients, Dr. Abdullahi said adequate provision of drugs and other needed consumables have been made in surplus for all the patients that are being attended. 

He also said to be able to carry out the exercise successfully across all the eleven local governments, the NMA devided itself into two, covering Bauchi Zone, comprising six local governments of Bauchi (Liman Katagum), Dass, Tafawa Balewa (Bununu), Bogoro, Alkaleri. 

For the Katagum Team, they covered Katagum, Itas, Jama'are, Giade and Gwaram local government under Jigawa state. 

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke to our correspondent revealed that the free medical outrech is a life changer to them, especially in times like this when they are battling with economic realities. 

Many said despite knowing they are living with one or more ailments, their major concern is what to eat, not to talk of buying medicine because they can not afford it. 

They therefore expressed deppest appreciation and gratitude to the Coordinating minister of health and social welfare Professor Mohammed Ali Pate, the National Primary Healthcare Department Agency and NMA for bringing this intervention to their doorstep.
