The management of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, has clarified its participation in the Federal Government’s subsidized kidney dialysis program, following recent reports which appeared to omit the hospital from the list of beneficiaries.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, the hospital stressed that it has been offering subsidized dialysis at the approved rate of ₦12,000 since January 8, 2025. According to the management, no fewer than 897 patients have so far benefited from the service, which covers all consumables to reduce the financial burden on patients and their families.
The hospital emphasized that the intervention has not only served residents of Bauchi State but also patients from across the North-East and neighboring states.
ATBUTH further highlighted its involvement in other Federal Government healthcare programs under the Renewed Hope Agenda. Since November 2024, the hospital has provided free cesarean section services, including post-operative care, medication, and treatment for both mothers and newborns. The initiative, the statement noted, has already benefited over 1,000 women and babies.
Similarly, the hospital was among the first institutions to roll out the National Emergency Medical Service and Ambulance System (NEMSAS). Since its launch in Bauchi by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, ATBUTH has delivered free emergency care for up to 48 hours to more than 500 patients, offering life-saving support in cases of accidents and other critical conditions.
“The management of ATBUTH Bauchi deeply appreciates the Federal Government’s commitment through the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in addressing healthcare challenges,” the statement read. “As a tertiary hospital strategically located in the North-East, we remain fully aligned with the Ministry’s vision of expanding access to affordable, quality, and compassionate healthcare.”
The hospital reiterated that it is not only part of the subsidized kidney dialysis program but also at the forefront of several national health interventions aimed at easing the hardship of Nigerians, particularly the most vulnerable.
The statement was signed by Usman Abdullahi Koli, Head of Public Relations and Protocol Unit, ATBUTH Bauchi.
