From Ahmad Saka, Bauchi

The Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu, has appointed and turbaned retired Comptroller of Customs, Alhaji Bala Muhammad Gidado, as the 9th Monarch of Alkaleri, succeeding his late uncle, Alhaji Mohammed Abdulkadir, who passed away a few months ago.

The turbaning ceremony, held at the Emir’s Palace in Bauchi, was marked by traditional displays and special prayers for peace, stability, and success in the reign of the new monarch.

Speaking at the event, the Emir of Bauchi urged Alhaji Gidado to draw from his wealth of experience to promote the development of Alkaleri, Bauchi State, and Nigeria at large. He said the choice of Gidado was based on merit, citing his knowledge, integrity, and distinguished character.

The Emir also advised the new monarch to uphold the values of honesty, justice, tolerance, and fairness, describing them as vital to ensuring peace and progress within the emirate. He commended Governor Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad for fostering cordial relations with traditional institutions and for executing development projects across the state.

Chairman of Alkaleri Local Government Area, Garba Hassan Bajama, who spoke on behalf of the people, expressed gratitude to the Emir for confirming Gidado’s appointment, pledging the council’s support for peace and stability in the area.

Following his turbaning, the new monarch was led in a majestic procession from Bauchi to Alkaleri, about 60 km away. Despite heavy rainfall, large crowds lined the streets, cheering as the monarch rode on horseback to his palace, accompanied by a colourful durbar. He was formally presented with the symbols of authority, including a sword, staff, and the Holy Qur’an.

The historic ceremony drew senior government officials, traditional rulers, politicians, and other dignitaries. Among those present were retired Comptroller of Customs Mahmud Malami Gidado, Special Adviser on Media to the Governor of Bauchi State, Comrade Muktar Muhammad Gidado, Deputy Commissioner of Police Plateau State Shehu Adamu, and several titleholders and stakeholders.

In a related development, the Gwaram community of Alkaleri Local Government expressed appreciation to the Emir for appointing Alhaji Bala Muhammad Gidado as the 9th Alkaleri Monarch and Ambassador Yakubu Santuraki Sulaiman Adamu as the District Head of Pali.

In a statement signed by Barrister Muslim Maigari, the Dallatun Gwaram, the community described the appointments as a timely decision that would provide visionary leadership at a critical moment in Nigeria’s history. They commended the Emir’s foresight and expressed confidence that the leaders’ wealth of experience and integrity would strengthen traditional institutions, promote socio-economic development, and support government efforts in tackling security challenges.

The community offered prayers for the new monarch and district head and urged citizens to rally behind them in unity and cooperation to ensure peace and progress in Alkaleri.
