Police Nab Motorcycle Theft Syndicate, Arrest Drug Peddlers in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has smashed a motorcycle theft syndicate and arrested suspected drug peddlers in separate operations within the Bauchi metropolis.
The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, who disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, said the arrests followed intelligence-led policing and proactive patrols aimed at tackling criminal activities in the state.
Motorcycle Theft Syndicate Busted
On August 27, 2025, at about 7:10 a.m., the Command received credible intelligence from a good Samaritan regarding a gang of motorcycle thieves operating around the Bakaro area of Bauchi metropolis.
Acting swiftly on the information, a team of detectives from A Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Musa Alhaji Hassan, launched an operation which led to the arrest of two suspects:
Both suspects, residents of Bakaro, allegedly confessed to conspiring with three other accomplices to unlawfully enter the residence of one Baba Karami in Unguwar Sarkin Kofa, Bauchi, where they stole a Bajaj motorcycle at night.
According to police investigations, the stolen motorcycle was dismantled, packed in a sack, and sold. Preliminary findings further revealed that the group specialised in stealing motorcycles within their neighbourhood.
Other members of the gang identified as Mahmood Mahmood, alias Ankula, and one Ganiya, also from Bakaro, are currently on the run. The Command has assured that efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects.
Drug Peddlers Arrested in Wuntin Dada
In a separate operation on August 23, 2025, at about 11:00 a.m., operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) under the leadership of Commander CSP Suleiman Tambuwal, arrested three suspects during visibility patrols around the Asorock mountain vicinity of Wuntin Dada.
The suspects were identified as:
They were reportedly caught distributing dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa inside an incomplete building in the area.
During interrogation, Hussaini Lawal confessed that he had been involved in the trafficking of cannabis for about a year and provided useful information about his associates in the illicit trade.

CSP Wakil reaffirmed the determination of the Bauchi State Police Command under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police to rid the state of criminal elements.
He said all the suspects would be profiled, thoroughly investigated, and charged to court accordingly, urging residents to continue providing timely and useful information to security agencies in order to enhance community safety.
