The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed the death of a police officer, Constable Ukasha Muhammed, who was allegedly shot and killed by a private soldier during a confrontation in the Bayan Gari area of Bauchi metropolis on Friday night, October 10, 2025.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the incident occurred around 10:35 p.m. when a patrol team led by Inspector Hussaini Samaila encountered two individuals assaulting a police constable in front of Padimo Hotel.

The police team swiftly intervened, leading to the arrest of one suspect, later identified as Private Usman Mubarak (23NA/84/5346), attached to the Special Task Force, Operation Safe Haven, based in Jos, Plateau State. However, the situation took a tragic turn when, about 30 minutes later, two other soldiers—Private Yakubu Yahuza (23NA/85/10185) and Private Godspower Gabriel (23NA/84/5654)—arrived at the scene partially dressed in military uniform and armed with rifles.

“They opened fire on the police team, fatally shooting Constable Ukasha Muhammed in the chest before fleeing the scene,” the statement read. The injured officer was immediately rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), where he was later confirmed dead by medical personnel.

The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the hospital mortuary, while the detained soldiers, Privates Yahuza and Gabriel, are currently in police custody as investigations continue.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has ordered a discreet and comprehensive investigation into the incident. He also directed that an autopsy be conducted to determine the exact cause of death, assuring the public that justice will be served.

In his message of condolence, the Commissioner commiserated with the family of the late officer, praying for the repose of his soul and strength for his loved ones to bear the loss.

He also appealed for calm among police personnel and the public, emphasizing that the Command is committed to uncovering the truth and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable in accordance with the law.

CSP Ahmed Wakil reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to uphold professionalism and due process throughout the investigation.

The tragic killing has sparked widespread concern among residents of Bauchi, as security operatives work to maintain peace and prevent escalation.
