The Bauchi State Police Command has launched a discreet investigation following the discovery of 387 blocks of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa inside a vehicle involved in a fatal road accident in Wom Village, Toro Local Government Area, of the state.

The incident, which occurred on October 4, 2025, around 11:30 a.m., involved two white Toyota Corolla vehicles with registration numbers ABC-459LF and GWA-155GW.

According to preliminary investigations, the first vehicle — driven by Ali Muhammad, 45, of Nabardo Village — was conveying the District Head of Nabardo, Suleiman Bala Suleiman, 65, and his family from Bauchi to Nabardo when a second Toyota Corolla coming from Jos attempted to overtake other vehicles recklessly, leading to a head-on collision.

Police sources confirmed that all the occupants sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, for medical attention. The District Head reportedly sustained a fracture in his left leg, while other victims were treated and some discharged.

During a search of the wrecked vehicle with registration number GWA-155GW, detectives recovered:

  1. 387 blocks of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa
  2. A black travel bag containing personal effects
  3. Two polyethene bags with personal items
  4. A black Tecno phone without a SIM card
  5. Vehicle documents and a driver’s license

The Bauchi Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil (Anipr, Mnisma), who confirmed the development in a statement issued on October 10, 2025, said all recovered items have been transferred to the State Investigation Department (S.I.D.) for further analysis.

He disclosed that the case will later be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for a comprehensive investigation, while efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the unidentified driver of the vehicle carrying the suspected drugs.

“The Commissioner of Police has ordered a discreet investigation into the matter to ensure that justice is served. Members of the public with any useful information that could lead to the arrest of the fleeing driver are encouraged to come forward,” Wakil stated.

He reiterated the command’s commitment to maintaining peace and order in the state, assuring residents that the police remain vigilant and determined to bring all those involved to justice.
